Academic Intervention Services
 

Penn Yan Academy provides Academic Intervention Services (AIS) of varying types and levels to those students who have failed OR who are deemed to be at risk of failing a state exam(s) that is required for graduation. AIS is a state mandated program.

TYPES OF AIS:
  • Academic--student is provided with assistance in the appropriate core subject(s) of English, Social Studies, Math, and/or Science
  • Counseling--our School Social Worker or School Psychologist provides services focused on social/emotional, family, attendance issues, etc. that are thought to be interfering with the student's ability to be successful academically
  • Health Related--Vision and/or Hearing Screening
 
 
LEVELS OF SERVICES:
  • Progress Monitoring--student's performance is monitored by the classroom teacher (or assigned staff member)
  • Push-In--an additional teacher or teacher assistant provides services within the classroom
  • Add-On--student is assigned to a separate class in addition to his/her regular class, during which small group or individualized instruction in the specific subject area is provided
