The Penn Yan School District is using the “Big Game” to help make a difference in the community

The annual Penn Yan FFA “Souper Bowl” Food Drive invites students and staff across the district to tackle hunger while cheering on their favorite Super Bowl team by turning game-day predictions into donations that directly support local families in need.

For the past two weeks, students, faculty and staff throughout the district have been voting for the team they think will win the Super Bowl by placing nonperishable food items and personal hygiene products into collection boxes with each item counting as a vote.  Every contribution helps stock the shelves at Living Well.

Organized by Carlie Bossard, FFA advisor and Penn Yan FFA members, the Souper Bowl Food Drive highlights the heart of agricultural education: leadership, service, and community involvement.

This year, Penn Yan FFA hopes to surpass 3,000 donated items, demonstrating once again how a school community can rally together to support its neighbors.

At Penn Yan Elementary School, where classes have been reigning champions in recent years, the competition adds an extra twist. A scoring multiplier rewards both generosity and accurate predictions, meaning any class still has a shot at victory. Winning classes will be celebrated with special rewards after February break — and the coveted bragging rights for another year.

District Office and Transportation staff are also stepping up once again. Though smaller in number, these teams have built a reputation for mighty contributions that help push the district toward its ambitious goal.
