Penn Yan FFA Students Build Beds for Local Children During FFA Week

As part of National FFA Week celebrations, the Penn Yan FFA chapter partnered with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace NY-Auburn chapter to build bed frames for children in need—taking a major step toward launching a future Penn Yan chapter of their own.

Students from agriculture, technology, business, and engineering classes at Penn Yan Academy worked together to build parts for 30 beds. Once finished, the beds will be distributed to local families.

Students also created several custom jigs and templates during the build, increasing efficiency and bringing Penn Yan one step closer to independently hosting future builds.

The February build marked the kickoff of what organizers hope will become an official Penn Yan build and delivery hub connected to the Auburn chapter. Core volunteers from the Auburn chapter assisted with loading, unloading, and supporting the successful day of service.

The partnership quickly made a tangible impact, completing the first official Penn Yan delivery, assembling a bunk bed for a local family. The inaugural delivery team included students and advisors alongside Auburn leadership, marking an exciting milestone for the growing collaboration.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a volunteer-driven nonprofit with a simple but powerful mission: “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town.” The organization provides fully built beds, mattresses, and bedding to children ages 3–17 at no cost to families.

With multiple deliveries completed in February alone, Sleep in Heavenly Peace continues to expand its reach across the region. Since its Auburn chapter was founded in January 2020, the organization has delivered more than 1,300 beds to children in need.
