Penn Yan Academy students are once again bringing creativity to the community, one scoop at a time.
For the fifth year, students in the PYA Horticulture/Food Science class took part in a hands-on ice cream creation project in partnership with Seneca Farms. The project gives students the opportunity to develop original ice cream flavors, pitch their ideas, and see the winning creation produced and sold locally.
This year, students crafted four unique flavors to present to their peers and staff:
- Lucky Charms: marshmallow base with graham cracker and marshmallow pieces
- Rainbow Rave: Skittles-flavored base with Pop Rocks
- Horchata: milk base with rice, cinnamon, and sugar
- After Hours: salted caramel base with peanut butter swirl and dark chocolate-covered pretzel pieces
After a close vote decided by just three votes, Lucky Charms was crowned the winner of the 5th annual flavor contest.
The winning flavor will now be produced and sold at Seneca Farms, giving students the unique experience of seeing their work shared in the community.
Beyond the competition, the project offers students valuable insight into food production, product development, and marketing, while building a strong connection between the school and local business partners.
All four student-created flavors will be available at Seneca Farms, and the community is encouraged to stop in and give them a try.
