The 17th Annual HUBBA Tea once again brought together Penn Yan Academy students and local senior citizens for a memorable and meaningful intergenerational experience, celebrating connection, community, and shared joy.
HUBBA (Help Us Build Better Assets) originated as a district program designed to foster relationships between students and senior citizens through shared experiences. That mission continues today, as this year’s event welcomed 20 senior guests for an afternoon of entertainment, conversation, and hospitality.
The event featured a live performance by the Penn Yan Academy jazz band, providing an enjoyable musical backdrop for the gathering. Students played an active role in hosting the event, with six student volunteers serving guests throughout the afternoon. Penn Yan Academy student Briannah Teeter served as master of ceremonies, helping guide the event and leading a lively, multi-generational trivia game that encouraged interaction and friendly competition. Prizes were awarded, adding to the excitement and engagement.
“The seniors love the tea. They enjoy the finger sandwiches and desserts, and they truly look forward to it each year,” said Patti Harling. “I enjoy the tea as well—it is always a delightful afternoon interacting with our senior citizens.”
Guests were treated to a delightful selection of tea, finger sandwiches, and desserts, all thoughtfully prepared and served. The setting was further enhanced by beautiful floral arrangements created by Penn Yan Academy horticulture students, adding an elegant touch to each table. As a parting gift, each guest received a bottle of honey provided by Keuka Maple.
The HUBBA Tea continues to be a cherished district tradition, strengthening connections across generations and highlighting the importance of community engagement.
