The Penn Yan Central School District continues to expand career exploration opportunities for students through a series of engaging, hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Recent events at Penn Yan Academy highlight the District’s commitment to connecting students with real-world careers and local industry professionals.
On April 21, Penn Yan Academy hosted its 2nd Annual Career Fair, bringing in local businesses, organizations, and industry leaders to connect with students.
This year, 21 businesses and professionals offered Career Spotlight sessions, with approximately 250 students participating. In addition, more than 50 local employers were on campus for the Career Fair, providing students with valuable exposure to a wide range of career pathways and opportunities. From healthcare to skilled trades and local business ownership, the event provided valuable exposure to employment opportunities across the Finger Lakes region.
Along with the Career Fair, Penn Yan’s agricultural education program and FFA chapter recently hosted its own Career Day, offering students additional opportunities to explore careers in agriculture and natural resources. Industry professionals brought real-world expertise directly into the classroom, creating an engaging and immersive learning environment.
Students learned about careers in animal science and agriculture through a visit from a representative of Select Sires, who shared insights into artificial insemination and the wide range of career opportunities within the field. Representatives from Bartlett Tree Experts introduced students to careers in forestry, including a live tree-climbing demonstration that showcased both the skill and safety involved in arboriculture work.
Adding to the hands-on experience, students also welcomed pheasant chicks delivered through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The project gives students the responsibility of caring for the chicks while learning about wildlife management and environmental stewardship.
Together, events continue to prepare students for life beyond graduation. By connecting classroom learning with real-world applications and introducing students to professionals across a range of industries, the District is helping students build skills, explore interests, and better understand the opportunities available to them.
