Community Eligibility Provision for Pandemic-EBT benefits

The Penn Yan Central School District is a Community Eligibility Provision District which means that we have provided Free Lunch to all students for the last two years regardless of income due to the overall totals of Free lunch eligibility. We have recently learned that there are pandemic-EBT benefits that will be provided to all students that attend a Community Eligibility District. These Benefits will be made available to all students on a rolling issuance schedule, beginning in early July and concluding no later than Aug. 31.

P-EBT benefits are not SNAP benefits. However, P-EBT benefits are subject to the same purchase and use restrictions as SNAP benefits. They are intended to be used to purchase food for the household of the children that received them and may only be used to purchase the same food items that are purchased with SNAP benefits.
Email inquiries about P-EBT benefits may be directed to: otda.sm.eisp.PEBT@otda.ny.gov.

Community Feedback Survey

Our district has created a brief survey to better understand the perspectives our stakeholders have regarding the reopening of our schools for students in September 2020. The purpose of this survey is to collect feedback to help us in our decision making. Please do not interpret your answers as choices for the Fall.

The COVID-19 pandemic required significant action and disruption from our traditional face-to-face instructional model. The information and data that is gathered from this survey will help our district best prepare and develop plans, protocols, and safety measures that are appropriate and align with our stakeholders' expectations. Our top priority is the health, safety, and welfare of our students, staff, and families.

Thank you for sharing feedback on these topics that relate to the reopening of schools in the Fall.

Responses will be accepted until Friday, July 17th.

Thoughtexchange for School Year

Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that New York school facilities will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year. The Governor will make a decision about summer school by the end of May. As we look to the future, we must think about what a return to school buildings might look like and how best to support students, families and staff.

We know that we are stronger together. We need all voices to be heard on this important matter. Please participate in a statewide virtual conversation about reopening schools. You will be able to read and rate other participants' responses. Based on those ratings, the most important thoughts will rise to the top. All contributions are anonymous.

This is a statewide exchange facilitated by the 37 New York BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services). The exchange results will be shared with our elected officials so that they will have a more global understanding of the thoughts and ideas our community members have about returning to in-person schooling.

I encourage everyone to use the link below to share your thoughts and help evaluate the critical issues. If English is not your first language, there is a translation feature. This exchange will be live Monday, May 18 for approximately one week.

Your BOCES is Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES.

Thank you in advance for your participation,

Howard Dennis
