Welcome Back to School!
As we start another exciting year of learning, here are a few reminders to ease the transition back into our school routine.
Bus stops: Bus stops are located outside and families must be visible from the road. Greeting your bus driver in plain sight will brighten their morning and help them memorize exactly where their stops are as they adjust to their route's changes.
Arrival Times: As accurate as we try to be with pick up and drop off estimates, they are exactly that. Please allow a 5-10 minute grace period surrounding your pick up and drop off times for your students during the first couple weeks of school while drivers get used to their routes and last-minute changes are processed.
PYE Student ID cards: This year with the use of tablets on our buses we will also have scannable student ID's to keep track of attendance; these ID's will be in a retractable holder that attaches to their backpack. Penn Yan Elementary students Head Start through fifth grade will receive these on their first day of school. Students will take their ID and touch it to a square reader when boarding and exiting the bus, which will link with the tablet and mark the student as present or dropped off on that bus. The IDs will work across all buses and keep track of students who move from one bus to another or ride different buses on different days.

Our district encompasses 175 square miles, and our buses run over 3000 miles per day. Nearly 1700 students are transported daily to the three Penn Yan Schools as well as 15 private and parochial schools.

2026/2027 School Year Reminders
Preparing for a new school year can be stressful for staff and parents alike. In an effort to relieve some of this stress, the following reminders and FYI's have been compiled below.
Student's Transportation Schedules
Bus routes for the school year will be created using the student's primary/home address. Students riding the school bus will be routed to and from their primary address every day by default. If you'd like your student to be bussed to and/or from another address, please fill out and send in the Alternate Transportation Application before August 1st (linked to the right). Students are allowed two separate addresses for their transportation schedule to accommodate daycare needs. Pick up and drop locations are limited to two addresses to reduce safety concerns and confusion surrounding bussing for staff and students alike.
Consent to Drop Off without a Visible Adult
4th and 5th grade students may be allowed to be released from the bus without a trusted adult present if a parent or guardian sends a note to the [email protected] email giving written consent for their driver to do so. All students released to that stop must be in 4th or 5th grade to be dropped off without an adult visible. 4th and 5th grade students cannot be dropped off alone with younger students. If you have previously sent in written consent, you must send in another note for this new school year. Any forms or notes regarding transportation must be resubmitted before the beginning of each new school year.
